Welcome to my little corner of the big photography world. I'm Brittani Byers and am currently a student at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA. I'm majoring in visual arts with a concentration in darkroom photography. I've always had a love for cars and a lead foot definitely runs in the family. I've been toying around with classic cars as a primary focus in a few of my photography classes and jumped in completely last spring. I love the personality of antique cars and hot rods, anything that's not so mainstream. More times than not, they have stories and lives of their own instead of being just something that gets you through the commute every morning.
My projects have mainly come from the work I did for the owners of the cars I shot. I have done both digital and fiber prints for them, including some large scale projects collages. As Dan O'Hara said, "I love my 57 Chevy but don't get a chance to drive it enough. With Brittani's photograph collage of the car, it allows the car to come out of the garage into the center of our house in a way my wife approves."I know not all carriers of the double X chromosome feel the same way about the roar of an engine as I do, it definitely makes it an easier way to bring the pride and joy inside.
While I tend to cause a bit of a commotion when I pull out my 23 year old camera and load my film, I promise it's anything but old fashioned. I enjoy developing my film and printing in the dark room, but I'm still caught up with the digital age. I worked in a photography studio that specialized in portraits and sports photography for almost four years. There, I generally worked behind the scenes with Photoshop and assisting the photographers.
I'm currently in my junior year and spend the majority of my time in Savannah, GA or Cumming, GA when I venture home. I do both digital, film, and a combination of the two - a shoot shot with film and then scanned in and used digitally (In "Collection Pieces" both '57 Chevy pieces and the 1932 Dodge are examples of this) . I have also done projects where the photographs were supplied to me and I created a large photo collage with those photos (Also in "Collection Pieces," the Hot Rod is an example of this).
